Chiang Mai

I have been writing a lot of poems and sketching lately, it's nice because I haven't done either in quite some time. The people around here seem very content and happy, and although people work constantly, a lot of them say that is what brings them happiness. What a different mind set than we have in the U.S. Yesterday I interviewed a monk at a temple, it was very interesting. There is thing thing called "monk chat" where monks get to practice their english and foreigners get to ask questions, so it's a win win situation. I went with three other people from my group and we talked to two monks who were both in their early twenties. The interviews went well and now I have valuable information for my paper as well. One monk told us about a new way to meditate that was very intriguing, most people in our group have begun meditating so it was useful information.

Father, this is a limerick for you:

vegetation grows all around
a sacred temple has been found
the search for the self
in good or bad health
where insight and meaning abound

  1. Hi Sophie! Sheesh, we haven't had internet for 6 days. Centurytel is hoping to fix it today. I'm using a connection on this jobsite....Great to finally see where you are and once again I'm so proud of what you are doing and how you are doing it. Thanks for the limerick. I have one for you about a man from Peru but I think I'll wait til you get back. :)
    Love, Pops
